How to Process Report of Marriage in Japan (For Filipinos)

For Filipinos currently living in Japan and have gotten married, you need to submit a report of marriage to our Philippine embassy so that it will be listed in the Philippine government system. Below are the procedures and requirements applicants need to secure.

To avoid any future issues with your Philippine documents/records, please report the marriage as soon as you get married.

Guidelines for Filipinos Reporting Marriage in Tokyo, Japan

General Requirements

1. Personal Appearance of both parties.
2. Duly accomplished ROM application form – may be downloaded from the Embassy website.
3. Valid Passport of both parties and four (4) copies of their passport data page.
4. Certified True Copy of the Marriage Notification Report (Konintodoke no Kisai Jiko Shomeisho). Original and four (4) copies.
5. If spouse is Japanese – latest Family Registry (Koseki Tohon) showing the couple’s date and place of marriage. Original and 4 copies.
6. If spouse is a foreign national other than Japanese – Certificate of Acceptance of Marriage (Juri Shomeisho) showing the couple’s date and place of marriage. Original and 4 copies.
7. Affidavit of Delayed Registration of Marriage – if the application is filed after 30 days from the date of marriage.
8. Four photographs (passport size) each of the husband and wife.
9. Letter Pack 510 envelope.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A. If Filipino applicant is divorced: **

1. DFA authenticated Judicial Decree of Absolute Divorce issued by a Philippine Court with Certificate of Finality. Original and four (4) copies.
2. NSO Marriage Certificate or Report of Marriage with annotation. Original and 4 copies.

B. If Filipino applicant is annulled: **

1. DFA authenticated Judicial Decree of Annulment issued by a Philippine Court with Certificate of Finality. Original and 4 copies.
2. NSO Marriage Certificate or Report of Marriage with annotation. Original and 4 copies.

C. If the Filipino applicant is widowed:**

1. NSO Death Certificate of the deceased spouse (if the spouse is Filipino) or Koseki Tohon (if the spouse is Japanese). Original and 4 copies.
2.NSO Marriage Certificate or Report of Marriage. Original and 4 copies.

** Applicants who have been issued Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage (LCCM) by the Embassy and have previously submitted these documents need not submit these documents again.

Important Reminders:

Ø All NSO documents should be in security paper.
Ø All photocopies should be in A4 size.
Ø Applications may be submitted in person at the Embassy or by mail.
Ø If the application is submitted by mail, the ROM application form must be typewritten and notarized by a Japanese notary public.

Fees for the following will be collected for:

Ø Translation per document
Ø Affidavit

Note: Fees are payable in US Dollar or it’s equivalent in Japanese Yen. Please consult the Embassy for the current conversion rate.
