A statement has been released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (Philippines) regarding the recent earthquake in Kumamoto which is he latest earthquake that struck near the city.
Buildings and bridges were toppled and caused catastrophic damages to landmarks. This powerful earthquake has sent Japan residents evacuating from their homes.

The Philippines conveys its profound sympathies to Japan for the casualties and damage caused by the recent strong earthquakes in Kumamoto prefecture and surrounding areas. The Philippines is closely monitoring the situation with the Japanese authorities and our Philippine foreign service posts in the affected region.
